This Mediterranean Goat Cheese Pizza is the kind of homemade pizza that makes an ordinary night feel instantly more exciting. With its golden crust, tangy goat cheese, savoury ham, melty cheddar, and all those lovely little Mediterranean-style touches, it is rich, comforting, and just different enough to feel a bit special.
I love this recipe because it is easy to make, full of flavour, and perfect for those nights when you want pizza but want it to feel a little more grown-up and interesting too. The goat cheese gives it that creamy, slightly tangy bite, the ham makes it hearty, and the mix of cheeses creates the most deliciously golden top. If you love homemade pizza nights, this is one of those recipes that is absolutely worth adding to your regular rotation.

We love pizza night in our house. Truly love it. It is one of those dinners that instantly puts everyone in a good mood, and no matter how many times I make pizza, nobody ever looks disappointed to see it on the table. As you probably already know, I was born in Croatia, where we have exceptionally good pizza, and I mentioned that in my Prosciutto and Arugula Pizza recipe too. So I take pizza quite seriously, but in a happy, home-kitchen kind of way, not in a dramatic chef-with-a-clipboard kind of way.
That is exactly why I wanted to share this glorious Mediterranean flavour on pizza with you. This one feels very close to the kind of food I naturally love, rich tomato sauce, creamy goat cheese, salty ham, a little sharpness from Parmesan, and all those beautiful little toppings that make every bite taste interesting. It has that lovely mix of comfort and character. Familiar enough to please everyone, but still special enough to make pizza night feel a little more exciting than usual.
My family loves this pizza because it is full of flavour without being too fussy. The goat cheese melts into soft creamy little pockets, the ham makes it savoury and satisfying, and if I add olives, red onion, or mushrooms, it gets even better. It is one of those pizzas where every slice tastes slightly different in the best way, and I always think that makes homemade pizza feel more fun.
I also love serving this when people come over, because it feels just a little bit fancy while still being pizza, which means everybody is happy. And let us be honest, that is a beautiful combination. Pizza is one of those foods that never needs much convincing, and when you give it Mediterranean flavours like this, it somehow feels both cozy and a tiny bit glamorous. That is very much my kind of dinner.
Best,
Ana
Why you’ll love this recipe
Main ingredients:
Pizza dough, tomato sauce, creamy goat cheese, savoury ham, cheddar, and Parmesan come together to make a pizza that feels rich, cosy, and full of Mediterranean charm. Add a few olives, red onion, or mushrooms, and it gets even better.
How it’s made:
The dough is rolled out, topped with sauce, layered with cheeses and ham, then baked until golden and bubbling. It is easy enough for a relaxed homemade pizza night but special enough to feel like more than just the usual Friday dinner.
Flavours:
This pizza is savoury, creamy, tangy, cheesy, and deeply comforting. The goat cheese brings those lovely soft, slightly sharp little bites, the ham adds warmth and saltiness, and the tomato sauce ties everything together with that familiar pizza-night goodness. It tastes cosy, a little Mediterranean, and exactly like the kind of dinner people gather around happily.

How to serve
Serve this Mediterranean Goat Cheese Pizza hot, straight from the oven, when the cheese is still soft and melty and the crust has that lovely golden edge. In our house, I usually serve it with a simple green salad, arugula salad, or something fresh like tomato and cucumber on the side, just to balance all that rich, cheesy goodness. It is also lovely with olives, marinated vegetables, or a little bowl of extra chili flakes for anyone who likes a bit of heat. If you are making a full pizza night out of it, you could serve it alongside another pizza, a platter of antipasto, or even a simple soup to start. And if you are feeding friends, just slice it up, put it in the middle of the table, and let everyone help themselves. Pizza always knows how to do the social part of dinner very well.
Tips for Success
- Use a good pizza base to start with. If you are making the dough yourself, my Foolproof Pizza Dough Without Yeast is such a lovely option for this recipe. It is quick, easy, and perfect for those nights when you want homemade pizza without waiting around for dough to rise. If you are using store-bought dough, just let it come to room temperature first so it is easier to stretch and shape.
- Do not overload the pizza. I know it is tempting, especially with toppings as delicious as these, but a lighter hand gives you a much better result. Too much cheese or too many extras can make the middle heavy and stop the crust from baking properly. You want every topping to have its moment, not all of them fighting for space.
- Crumble the goat cheese evenly across the pizza rather than dropping it all in one area. That way, you get those lovely creamy, tangy bites all over the pizza instead of one very dramatic corner.
- Preheat the oven really well. A hot oven makes a big difference with pizza. It helps the crust turn golden, gives the cheese that beautiful bubbly finish, and stops the base from feeling pale or soft. If you have a pizza stone or steel, even better, but a hot baking tray works nicely too.
- Brush the crust lightly with olive oil before baking. It is a small step, but it helps the edges turn beautifully golden and gives the pizza that extra little something that makes it feel more special.
- Let the pizza rest for a couple of minutes before slicing. I know this is the hardest part, especially when it smells amazing, but those few minutes help the cheese settle slightly and make the slices easier to cut and serve.
- And one little tip from me, if you are using my Foolproof Pizza Dough Without Yeast, do not be afraid to make pizza night a regular thing. That dough makes homemade pizza feel very doable, even on busy evenings, and recipes like this one are exactly why I love having it in my back pocket.
Substitutions & Variations
- This pizza is very easy to adjust depending on what you have at home or what kind of pizza mood you are in. If you do not have goat cheese, feta is a lovely swap and still gives you that salty, slightly tangy Mediterranean feel. Cream cheese is not quite the same, but little dollops can work if that is what you have. For the cheddar, mozzarella is always a good option if you want a more classic pizza-style melt, and you can use pecorino instead of Parmesan for a sharper finish.
- If deli ham is not your favourite, prosciutto, cooked chicken, turkey, or even crispy bacon can work nicely here. You can also leave the meat out completely and turn it into more of a veggie-style pizza with mushrooms, olives, roasted capsicum, red onion, zucchini, or spinach. This recipe is actually very happy to go in a few different directions.
- For the sauce, tomato pizza sauce is the classic base, but you could also use basil pesto for a richer Mediterranean twist, or even a thin layer of crème fraîche if you want something softer and a little more indulgent. A few fresh basil leaves scattered over the top after baking are also lovely if you want to brighten everything up.
- If you want to make it feel even more Mediterranean, try adding sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, or a handful of arugula after baking. And if you love a little contrast, a drizzle of honey over the goat cheese right before serving can be unexpectedly delicious. It sounds a bit fancy, but it really works.
- This is one of those homemade pizzas that gives you plenty of room to play, which is exactly why it is such a good one to keep in your pizza-night rotation.
Storage, Reheating & Freezer Tips
This pizza is best eaten fresh, straight from the oven, when the crust is crisp and the cheese is still soft and melty. But if you do have leftovers, they keep quite well, which is always nice because cold pizza has its own little charm too.
Store leftover slices in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. I like to place a piece of baking paper between slices if I am stacking them, just to stop everything sticking together too much.
To reheat, the oven or a dry skillet works best if you want to bring back some of that lovely crispness. A few minutes in a hot oven or in a pan over medium-low heat usually does the trick. The microwave works too if you are in a hurry, but the crust will be softer, so it depends on the kind of day you are having.
You can also freeze the baked pizza. Let the slices cool completely, then freeze them in a single layer before transferring them to a freezer-safe bag or container. That way they do not stick together, and you can take out just what you need. They are best used within 1 to 2 months.
When you are ready to eat, reheat the frozen slices straight from the freezer in the oven until hot and the cheese is lovely again. It is such a handy thing to have tucked away for busy days, and honestly, future you will probably be very pleased with past you.

Mediterranean Goat Cheese Pizza Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 pizza dough store-bought or homemade
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce tomato-based
- 1 cup goat cheese crumbled
- 1 cup deli ham, sliced thin
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 tbsp olive oil for brushing the crust
Optional toppings:
- mushrooms sliced
- olives
- red onion sliced
- red bell peppers diced
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.
- Prepare the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to a 12-inch circle. Move the dough onto a piece of parchment paper if you’re using a baking sheet, or directly onto the preheated pizza stone.
- Layer Sauce and Toppings: Evenly spread the pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust. Scatter half the goat cheese over the sauce. Arrange the deli ham slices over the cheese, adding any optional toppings as desired. Sprinkle with the cheddar cheese, the rest of the goat cheese, and top off with grated Parmesan.
- Oil the Crust: Brush the crust's edge lightly with olive oil for added crunch and a golden finish.
- Bake: Slide the pizza (on parchment if using a sheet) into the oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the toppings look invitingly toasted.
- Cool and Serve: Let the pizza cool for a few minutes after baking. This makes it easier to cut and helps the toppings set. Slice into 8 pieces and serve warm.
- Dobar tek!
Notes
- Try our Foolproof Pizza Dough Without Yeast
- Goat cheese doesn’t melt the same way mozzarella does but will get delightfully soft. Distribute it in crumbles or small dollops for the best texture.
- Adjust the amount of goat cheese based on your preference for a stronger or milder goat cheese presence on your pizza.
